Birchbox September 2012: The September Issue

I don't know about Birchbox this month....

Before I get into my feelings, though, let's just throw out what I got:

  • Color Club Nail Polish in Insta-This (Birchbox Exclusive Shade)
  • Jouer Matte Moisture Tint in Hazel
  • Kate Spade New York Fragrance in Twirl
  • Skin, An Apothecary Soy Body Whip in Poppy
  • Twistband Lace Hair Tie
  • Hollywood Fashion Secrets Fashion Tape
  • $25 Gift Card to Madewell
  • Birchbox Digital Download - Tristan Prettyman
  • The Fall Lookbook
As you can tell, I got a lot of stuff and definitely feel that, value-wise, I got my $10 worth this month.  The Soy Body Whip, to start with, is a whopping 2 oz sample!  It's probably my favorite part of the box this month.  I also like the included Kate Spade fragrance.  It's that fruity-floral scent that I love so much.

Yet, I'm still left wanting more.  Not more stuff, I just wish some of the stuff was different.  Like the Color Club polish, for instance.  I like the looks of the color, but this is the second Color Club polish I've gotten from them out of the 3 boxes I've had so far.  Luckily it's a different color, but there's a lot of other polish brands out there that I'd like to explore.

I'm also not anticipating liking the Jouer moisture tint.  It says its matte and I have dry skin, especially this time of year.  Matte + my dry skin usually does not equal anything good.  I don't get the hair tie either.  To me, it just seems like a regular elastic, nothing special.  Plus the ends are frayed and got little strings all over me when I was looking at it.

The fashion tape seemed like a cool touch but in reality I don't see myself using this anytime soon.  I'm definitely not a fashionista and have a pretty laid back style, one in which fashion tape is almost never needed.  But who knows, maybe I'll need to hem something some time?

Lastly, I was really excited to see the $25 gift card to Madewell, but when I went to the website, much of their stuff is too expensive for my current budget and $25 isn't going to get me very far.  And even if I could afford it, it really doesn't seem like my kind of style.  (Madewell is a clothing and accessories store, for those of you who haven't heard of it before, like me.)

Bottom Line:  Amber isn't thrilled with this one...

I've seen a lot of people bashing Birchbox when I get boxes that I actually enjoy and didn't get it before.  Now I feel like I got a sneak peek of what these others may be getting tired of.  Hopefully this is just a fluke and I'll like my box next month....

I will say that I have consistently been impressed by the pamphlets Birchbox includes, this time being the Fall Lookbook.  They are always very informative and interesting little reads!

And just a note, I love Tristan Prettyman so I'm actually excited about the free download, but I'm not sure I like the music download being included as a box feature.  Since I bought this for beauty samples, I would've rather have had an actual beauty sample in place of the songs....
